Baltazar de la Cruz Rodriguez: Maya-Ixil Cultural Rights and Megaprojects in Guatemala

Baltazar de la Cruz Rodriguez  is a member of the Alcaldía Indígena of Cotzal, consisted of ancestral authorities dedicated to promoting Ixil culture, identity, rights and the defense of the regions natural resources and territories. He has given presentations throughout Guatemala as well as abroad in Italy, Colombia, Mexico and the United States. He is also a co-founder of the Ixil University, a three-year educational program that seeks to instill in students Ixil ways of knowing, values and respect and defense of our territories and natural resources. Apart of being a member of the Alcaldía Indigena of Cotzal, he is also a member of the Regional Council of the Alcaldía Indigena, which represents all three municipalities (Chajul, Cotzal and Nebaj) of the Ixil Region.
