"Making the Past Present": Insights from the National History Teacher of the Year

Sara Ziemnik will share what she's learned about teaching history and the humanities during her two decades in the classroom. 

She is '99 alum of Miami University and a history teacher at Rocky River High School, is the 2017 Ohio History Teacher of the Year. Teacher of the Year. The award is presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation's leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.

Initiated in 2004, the award highlights the importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary school through high school. The award honors one K-12 teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools and U.S. territories. In the fall, the National History Teacher of the Year will be selected from the pool of state winners.
