Valentyna Smal is a professor of geography at Nizhyn Gogol State University (Ukraine). Her research interests lay in the field of economic, social and political geography. Dr. Smal has published over 125 papers and several textbooks. Her current research focus is on Ukrainian internally displaced persons (IDPs). She has worked with the local authorities in Ukrainian regions to develop policy measures aimed at integration of IDPs affected by the war in Eastern Ukraine into the local communities and economies.
