STUDENT CITIZENS

Student Citizen Scholarships

Thanks to a grant from the Teagle Foundation, the Humanities Center and the College of Arts and Science are proud to announce the launch of  “Student Citizens,” a rigorous humanities summer seminar program for promising, underserved high school students from Southwest Ohio.

This two-week residential experience on Miami’s Oxford, Ohio, campus provides all tuition for a select group of rising high school seniors. Participants must demonstrate financial need and a strong desire to prepare for college success.

Participants will explore classic texts, engage in critical thinking and writing seminars with Miami faculty, form relationships with undergraduate student mentors, and experience the power of the traditional liberal arts to address urgent societal issues.

The program provides promising students with the critical thinking abilities, communication skills, and confidence to pursue their college aspirations. IT also aims to cultivate an of the humanities as a basis for engaged citizenship.

Through rigorous engagement with classic texts and major problems of democracy and governance, the program offers students a sense of the college experience, one-on-one mentoring by a Miami University undergraduate, and exposure to some of Miami's award-winning faculty in an intense seminar setting.
