2022 Annual Publishing Symposium: Publishing Panel

In this ZOOM panel, we’ll discuss what publishers are looking for in new authors and work, trends and tips in getting published, what the publishing process is like, and how these professionals made it to where they are today. Our guests are:

Jessamine Chan’s short stories have appeared in Tin House and Epoch. A former reviews editor at Publishers Weekly, she holds an MFA from Columbia University. Her work has received support from the Elizabeth George Foundation, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Wurlitzer Foundation, Jentel, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center, the Anderson Center, VCCA, and Ragdale. Her first novel, The School for Good Mothers, is a New York Times bestseller and a Read with Jenna Today Show Book Club pick.

Dana Murphy is a literary agent at The Book Group, representing adult fiction, nonfiction, and young adult titles. Prior to joining The Book Group as an assistant in 2012, she studied Critical Film Theory and Sociology at New York University, and worked in IT.

Daniel Vazquez is a senior editor at Astra House, where he is publishing books by Adam Soto, Okezie Nwọka, Melissa Lozada-Oliva, Alejandra Oliva, Julian Aguon, Aaron Timms, and more. He previously worked in editorial at MCD/FSG and Harper Collins and in publicity and marketing at The New Press. He is a graduateof the Publishing Certificate Program at City College of New York.
