Jonathan Crary is Meyer Schapiro Professor of Modern Art and Theory at Columbia University, where he has taught since 1989. His books include Techniques of the Observer, Suspensions of Perception, and 24/7: Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep. He is also a founding editor of Zone Books and an affiliated faculty member of the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. Crary has been the recipient of Guggenheim, Mellon, Getty and National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and has been a member of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton.
