Diplomacy During the Russo-Ukrainian War: A Conversation

The Annual Lecture of the Havighurst Center for East European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies will bring former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine (2016-19) Marie Yovanovitch and former U.S. Ambassador to Russia (2023-25) Lynne Tracy to campus. They will discuss their careers and talk about the role of diplomacy in Ukraine, Russia, and elsewhere in the region with Stephen Norris, Director of the Havighurst Center.

Marie Yovanovitch is the author of a New York Times best-selling memoir, "Lessons from the Edge."  She is also a Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a non-Resident Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, Georgetown University.  Previously, she served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine (2016-2019), the Republic of Armenia (2008-2011) and the Kyrgyz Republic (2005-2008).  

Lynne M. Tracy is a retired U.S. Department of State senior Foreign Service Officer with 31 years of diplomatic experience. She was Ambassador to the Russian Federation (2023-2025) and Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia (2019-2022). Prior to that, she served as Senior Advisor for Russian Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, 2017-2018 and was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia, 2014-2017.
