Art 100

At a time when photographic imagery saturates our waking life, lamenting our declining attention span has become a common refrain. Sharon Koelblinger's artwork seeks to offer an alternative to this narrative by slowing down the process of looking at photographs and drawing the viewer’s awareness to their own gaze. Koelblinger will discuss her work of presenting photographs in sculptural formats that aim to disrupt traditional presentation methods and affirm the viewer's own presence in the current moment.

Sharon Koelblinger (b. Minneapolis, MN; lives in OH) holds an MFA in Photography from the Tyler School of Art and a BFA in Sculpture from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her work is currently included in the traveling exhibition: A New World: Ohio Women to Watch 2023, which is now on view at the Westen Art Gallery in Cinncinati. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington, Cade Center Gallery in Annapolis, and ACRE Projects in Chicago; solo exhibitions include VisArts in Rockland, MD, and Vox Populi in Philadelphia. She has attended residencies at I-Park in Connecticut, Kimmel Harding Nelson in Nebraska, and ACRE in Wisconsin. She was awarded an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award grant in 2021 & 2023.
