Susan Ewing: Miniature to Monumental

Ewing will revisit her body of hand-crafted intimate objects that are inherently monumental in form, space, and content that were translated into public large-scale works, and she will share her most recent small-scale explorations.

Susan Ewing’s creative works encompass jewelry, tabletop design, and public works of sculpture. Her works are in numerous public collections ranging from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK, the Alessi Museum in Crusinallo, Italy, and the UmPrum Museum, Prague to regionally in the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus, and the Miami University Art Museum, among others. She was a J.W. Fulbright Senior Lecturing Scholar at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague (1997-99) and a Masterclass Professor at the Royal College of Art in London (1999). She was honored twice at The White House by President and Mrs. Clinton as one of 80 artists in the first “White House Collection of American Craft”.

Ewing earned her Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, and Associate of Arts from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri. She is the former Maxine and Stuart Frankel Director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Distinguished Professor emerita and former Senior Associate Dean of the College of Creative Arts, Miami University of Ohio  Ewing headed Miami’s Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing studio for more than 30 years and continues her studio practice in Oxford.
