A Black Feminist Consideration of Animal Life

Sharon P. Holland is the Townsend Ludington Distinguished Professor in American Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is the author of Raising the Dead: Readings of Death and (Black) Subjectivity, Crossing Waters/ Crossing Worlds: The African Diaspora in Indian Country, and The Erotic Life of Racism. She is currently working on a book that examines philosophical distinctions between human and animals in order to ask about the relationship of “blackness” to notions of animality.
