Students and faculty are invited to “Coffee & Conversation” with Professor Sarah Stitzlein. The topic is “How do we teach honesty in a dishonest world?”The session will be moderated by Professor Kathleen Knight Abowitz.
Sarah M. Stitzlein is a Professor of Education and affiliate in Philosophy and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Cincinnati. Before receiving her doctorate, she graduated from Miami University with a B.A. in philosophy and an M.Ed. in educational leadership. She studies problems at the intersection of democracy and education and is the author of four books, including American Public Education and the Responsibility of its Citizens: Supporting Democracy in an Age of Accountability and Reviving Hope in Democracy: Teaching Hope and Overcoming Despair. She is editor of the journal Democracy & Education, President of the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society, and Past-President of the John Dewey Society. Stitzlein was commissioned by UNESCO in 2020 to write about the future of civics education globally and by the National Academy of Education in 2021 to describe how to improve civic reasoning and dialogue in the United States.
