The forum will be hosted by Gaile Pohlhaus, Professor of Philosophy. The topic is “How We Explain Our Disciplines to Students”. The previous forum, hosted by Pepper Stetler, explored the meaning of the humanities. This forum asks how we explain our disciplines—and the humanities more generally—to students, especially general education students.
Forum participants are encouraged to read “Is There Anything Especially Expert about Being a Philosopher?,” a short 2018 article by Dave Egan.
Sandwiches, vegetarian and turkey, will be provided to faculty members who RSVP to humanitiescenter@miamioh.edu by 3 p.m. Friday, February 23. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, if that is your preference.
The Humanities Faculty Lunch Forum meets once per month to discuss topics of general interest, such as trends in higher education, questions of policy, emerging fields of study, curriculum, teaching challenges, and issues related to career stage.
