Sandra Uwiringiyimana is a women’s rights activist, refugee advocate, and author. Her profoundly moving memoir How Dare the Sun Rise: Memoirs of a War Child (HarperCollins, 2017) is the true story of a girl from the Democratic Republic of Congo who survived a massacre and lived to tell the story. She tells her tale of survival, immigrating to America, and overcoming her trauma through art and activism. In this powerful presentation, Uwiringiyimana speaks to questions of human rights and refugee policy in today’s world. Co-sponsored by the Menard Family Center for Democracy, Miami Regionals Office of Diversity and Multicultural Services, and CLAAS Honors Program.
Free public event, book-signing and reception to follow.
