Russia’s War on Ukraine

Monday, October 10, 2022
6:00 pm
Shriver Center, John Dolobois Room B/C

The Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies, together with The Menard Family Center for Democracy and The Department of Media, Journalism, and Film’s Diana Stark Speaker Series in Journalism, is excited to present an armchair-style lecture with Dmitry Muratov, 2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Editor-in-Chief of Novaya Gazeta. Muratov is a vocal advocate for an independent press and is known for investigating abuses of power.  He helped found the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta and was the publication’s editor-in-chief when it shut down in March amid the Kremlin’s clampdown on journalists and public dissent in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2021, Muratov donated his prize this past June to be auctioned to raise money for Ukrainian child refugees, where it sold for $103.5 million.

This is a ticketed event. To get your ticket(s)—you may select up to 2--go to the Miami University Box Office and select the Muratov Lecture in Special Events; tickets will be available on September 26 at 10:00am. Please note: at the lecture venue, you will have to go through a security check; we ask that you arrive early in order to be seated in time for the lecture.

Doors open at 5:00 PM.
