Mollie Duffy, a junior Public Administration major from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and a 2023-24 year Geoffrion Fellow, will be featured in a new documentary for her efforts to increase voting at Miami University. Duffy has been a leader in Miami’s Democracy Bus project. Inspired by Ohio' new voter ID requirements, the Democracy Bus project helps students register, vote early, and stay engaged in the democratic process. Duffy recently won a $7,050 grant for the Democracy Bus project from MIAMI Women’s Giving Circle’s Hawk Tank fast-pitch initiative.
Through her involvement with the League of Women Voters in Oxford, Duffy has become a go-to resource for students seeking information about voting. Her work with Civic Influencers, a nonpartisan organization focused on increasing voter engagement, recently attracted attention from the makers of a German documentary, "Democracy in America". Duffy will be featured in the film, which airs March 19 on ARD, a public-service broadcaster. She discusses the role of Gen Z voters on camera.
Duffy's vision extends beyond Miami. She has created a civic engagement calendar to help students navigate events and registration across campus, facilitated local candidate forums with the League of Women Voters of Oxford, and has ambitious plans to provide even more resources for students interested in voting.
Students can register by Nov. 1 to ride the bus, which leaves at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 from the Shriver Center. Duffy reported to Miami University Communications and Marketing that the bus will also be used for the upcoming primary in March and presidential election in November 2024.
